Paul Bresciani is the Director of Parish Music at St. Veronica Roman Catholic Church and Director of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians Chapter for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Mr. Bresciani was born in Napa, California and attended Indiana University's School of Music on full scholarship, studying with noted double bass pedagogues Murray Grodner and Stuart Sankey. In 1985 he earned his Bachelor's of Music degree with High Distinction, and was awarded the prestigious Performer's Certificate for outstanding musicianship.
Prior to his appointment at St. Veronica, Paul was Pastoral Associate for Liturgy and Music at St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, Principal Bassist of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Assistant Choir Director and Organist of St. Fabian Roman Catholic Church in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Paul has performed with the San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, and the New American Chamber Orchestra. With these orchestras he has toured extensively throughout North America, Europe, Scandinavia, the Far East, and Israel.
Paul made his solo debut at age 16 with the North Bay Philharmonic Orchestra under Bertil van Boer. Since then he has been a featured soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the New American Chamber Orchestra, and Indiana University's University Orchestra. In 1988, Paul was a prizewinner in the 1988 Los Angeles International Double Bass Competition.
He is also a highly sought after chamber musician, having performed at the, Väasa, Korshölm, Nordic and Sälsta Chamber Music Festivals. Paul plays a bass violin made in Milan, Italy in 1731 by Paulo Antonio Testore.
In 2001, Phoenix Records released Paul's debut CD, Two Octaves Down to wide critical acclaim. The CD is a stunning virtuosic recital with pianist William Crawford. Read the reviews here.
